Treatment for Restless Leg Syndrome, also called RLS, is usually performed by taking a daily medication, like Lyrica. There is now evidence that many patients diagnosed with Restless Leg Syndrome may actually have venous insufficiency, a problem with the circulation of the legs. Venous insufficiency is caused when one or more veins in the legs fails to circulate blood up, against the force of gravity, allowing blood to pool in the legs. Patients often complain of cramping, leg heaviness and pain.
Many of these patients are misdiagnosed with Restless Leg Syndrome. In one study over patients with Restless Leg Syndrome, venous insufficiency was identified as being present. Treating the venous insufficiency with a short, in-office procedure, reduced the symptoms of Restless Leg Syndrome in over 90% of the patients in the study!
